There are many mentoring organizations across the GTA, however, “The Village” at THC is more of a natural approach to the God-given instruction that elders in the church community are responsible to teach the younger generation. Studies have found that having a “natural” mentor is associated with:
- Greater likelihood of completing high school, attending college, and working at
least 10 hours per week
- Decreased likelihood of being in gangs or participating in gang-related activities
- Higher level of self-esteem and life satisfaction
- Higher level of physical activity and delayed sexual activity
How Does “The Village” Work?
The Village is overseen by The Band of Brothers and The Circle of Sisters Ministries.
God has gifted our growing congregation with people from many walks of life with varied life experiences. If you are over 22 and interested in impacting the lives of the next generation at THC, simply register to become a part of “The Village”. Your name and expertise will go into a databank, which can then be accessed by any young person in our church who wants to seek your knowledge, expertise or advice, or simply a listening ear. You, along with the young person’s parents, will establish guidelines for your individual mentoring relationship in order that the process will be most beneficial for all.
